Tagum City—Thru the efforts and commitment of the City Government (LGU) of Tagum’s Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to reach out and cater to the needs of the centenarians in the city, as well as ensure that they receive what is given to them by law, three (3) Tagumenyo elders were awarded yesterday, June 23, with centenarian gifts from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region XI (DSWD-XI).
The giving of this gift is in accordance with RA 10868 or the Centenarian act of 2016 wherein Filipinos living in the Philippines or abroad who reached 100 years old will be given P100,000 in cash and a Letter of Felicitation from the President.
The centenarians were identified as Teodulo Alampayan Dupa of Purok Galingan, Mankilam, Simeon M. Caballes, Sr. of Purok Cervantes, Magugpo South, and Teodora Alterado of Prk. 6, San Miguel. The two (2) “lolos” were born on February 20, 1920 while Lola Teodora was born on April 20, 1920.
Aside from the one-time grant of P100,000 by the national government through the Centenarian Act of 2016, Lolo Teodulo and Lolo Simeon also received the same amount from the LGU of Tagum by virtue of City Ordinance 818, s.2017, last February 28 and March 10 respectively.
On the other hand, Lola Teodora is set to receive its grant from the LGU later this year.
LGU-Tagum is also slated to give P10,000 cash every birthday thereafter to the said centenarians.
According to Sally Balili, the CSWDO Head, the process of assessment of the grantees was crucial. She furthered that it must be critically validated so that the grant will be given to the rightful grantees.
Some of the proofs of assessment are birth certificates, valid IDs specially issued before the law was approved, and an affidavit of at least two of the children of the centenarians signifying that they are not interested in the grants given to their parents. Moreover, these centenarians must be a resident of Tagum for at least 5 years prior to the assessment.
Also present in the awarding were Vice Mayor Eva Lorraine Estabillo, DSWD Project Development Officer II John Ruzcel Sampiano along with his colleagues from DSWD-XI, CSWDO’s Social Welfare Officer III and focal person for the Senior Citizen Welfare Program Hosna S. Domawal, and Edwin B. Lasquite, the Head of the City Information Office.
The adoption of RA 10868 by the city government of Tagum cemented the mission of Mayor Allan L. Rellon where no one must be left out in the extension of government services to all Tagumenyos in the continuous improvement of the city. JP Cordovero/CIO Tagum
