TAGUM CITY, PHILIPPINES—The holding of the 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree broke previous records by achieving another feat as the most-attended scouting event in the history of the scouting movement in the ASEAN region.
Now on the second day of the 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree, the total number of participating scouters are all in – both from the foreign and local delegation.
The sixth edition of the ASEAN Jamboree brought together 29,753 delegates, about 5,000 of which are members and volunteers of the International Service Team coming from various institutions and government centers all over the Philippines and outside the country.
The international scout delegation comprises 13 different countries from in and outside the ASEAN region, summing up to a total of 386 foreign scouts, with Indonesia having the biggest delegation of 145 scouts. Malaysia follows with 100 scouts, Thailand with 46 scouts, Sri Lanka with 24 scouts, India with 18 scouts, Maldives with 15 scouts, Brunei Darussalam with 11 scouts, Singapore with 10 scouts, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Nepal, and Vietnam, each having four scouts, and lastly the Netherlands with one scout participant.
Korean visitors also graced the Camp Chief Night and the Cultural Night of the 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree with an astounding orchestra performance by students from Gracias Music High School of South Korea.
This year, with the Philippines hosting the 6th ASEAN Scout Jamboree, a whopping delegation of 24,560 local scouts break the country’s record of the number of delegates participating in the local scout jamborees. It can be recalled that last 2015 during the 16th National Scout Jamboree, over 22,000 scouts were recorded as delegates in the local scouting event.
With international delegates present, the Jamboree is a perfect venue for cultural exchange and education. The Jamboree Modules such as Crossroads of Culture and Faith and Belief are both great ways to appreciate the beauty of cultural diversity and to foster cultural learning within the whole duration of the camp. The ASEAN Scouts Cultural Night also showcases the various culture of the ASEAN region through cultural performances. Drex Rafols/CIO Tagum
