09 March 2020 | DOH Davao on High Alert, Urges the Public to Be Vigilant

Press Release / March 9, 2020

The Department of Health confirmed the local transmission of COVID-19 in the Philippines. DOH has raised the COVID-19 Alert System to Code Red sublevel 1, as its pre-emptive call to ensure that national and local governments, public and private health care providers can prepare for the possible increase in suspected and confirmed cases.

In light of this announcement, DOH Davao ramps up its local preparedness, closely coordinates with the right authorities to intensify surveillance specially at the Region’s points of entry and calls the public to be calm but vigilant.

To date, DOH Davao Center for Health Development has recorded a total of 24 Persons Under Investigation, all cleared and in good conditions. We should be very clear that, there is a risk that people might be incubating the virus, so we isolate and monitor them to protect the rest of the public. That is why PUIs are being admitted and stringent precautions are being taken. This is no time for complacency. These measures are being taken as we are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.

We urge the public to avoid crowded places. Continue to practice proper hygiene by frequently washing their hands with soap and water very frequently, practice proper coughing and sneezing etiquette and proper disposal of used tissue.

We also appeal to the public to refrain from sharing unverified and unofficial information that may only cause unnecessary panic. DOH is being transparent and are giving daily updates to this health event.
