DOST bats for technological advancement in sci-tech fair hosted by Tagum

Seeing the future of the business sector as highly mechanized and most innovative in the country, the Department of Science and Technology Region XI brought the Science and Technology (S&T) Caravan for Metals and Engineering Industry in Tagum City.

This aims to contribute to extending the technology and business economics advisory services especially to Davao del Norte and neighboring provinces as well as to liberalize and globalize research and market metals and engineering.

This activity is a first in Mindanao and third in the Philippines; La Union and Calapan, Mindoro were the first and second respectively. It is a three-day event held at the New City Hall of Tagum from April 25-27, 2018.

Joining the crowd of approximately 500 participants and guests, are the officials of DOST XI headed by Dr. Anthony C. Sales, CESO III; Engineer Reynaldo L. Dela Cruz Jr., president of the Philippine Welding Society with his affiliates; representatives from the Davao del Norte DTI as governed by their provincial director Romeo L. Castañaga; the manager of Central Industrial Supply Corporation Mr. Reynold Wong; and Dr. Ben-hur C. Rafosala, the chancellor of USEP Tagum-Mabini Campus.

The caravan kicked-off with an opening ceremony held at New City Hall Atrium and in lieu of Mayor Allan L. Rellon, Vice Mayor Geterito T. Gementiza did the honor of welcoming the guests and delegates.

Dr. Anthony C. Sales, Regional Director of DOST for Region XI said that Tagum City was the chosen host for this year’s caravan mainly because of the vibrant and robust economy of the city. The eagerness and the enthusiasm of the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to upgrade their production and service through mechanization is also one of the reasons according to him.  John Patrick Cordovero/CIO Tagum
