TAGUM CITY—Thirty-four drug users were busted in an anti-illegal drug operation at Purok 3, Durian Avenue in Barangay Madaum here by the joint forces of the Tagum City PNP Drug Enforcement Unit and Davao del Norte Provincial Mobile Force.
This is still in line with the city government’s developmental thrust for genuine peace, safety and security, along with its efforts to help conquer the country’s war against illegal drugs in support of the national government’s agenda.
At about 12:00 midnight on November 1, 2018, PSInsp. Eduardo J. Corpuz under the direct supervision of PSupt. Philip Jefferson S. Ayban, Officer-in-Charge of the City PNP Drug Enforcement Unit, and PSupt. Werenfredo Regidor Jr. of the Provincial Mobile Force led their teams to a buy-bust operation and caught the suspects involved in illegal drug activities.

During the operation, the team was able to destroy a drug den and recover from the above mentioned suspects eleven (11) sachets containing “shabu”, three (3) improvised glass tooter, six (6) aluminum strips, twelve (12) disposable lighters, five (5) sachets with residues of shabu, one (1) black pouch containing assorted sizes of empty cellophane, and the buy bust money resembling twelve (12) pieces of one thousand pesos.
Later that day at around 9:00am, same authorities conducted a checkpoint at Prk 3 Durian Ave, Brgy Madaum, Tagum City, and were able to arrest four more suspects.
Lanard Locañas Vitor of Prk Malipayon, Brgy Sta Cruz, Talicod Island, and Winston Romero Tadle of Prk Makugihon, Mipotak, Dipolog City, were both found in possession of one sachet of shabu and one small test tube. Jairajh Gementiza Muring was caught with one sachet of shabu and one improvised glass tooter. Subject persons were arrested after disobeying the conduct of checkpoint when they were flagged down for traffic violations.
On the other hand, an armed person later identified as Jhon Rey Mopito resisted the arrest and fired the Police authorities. The Police Officers were able to subdue Mopito and was rushed to Davao Regional Medical Center. However, due to the fatal wounds acquired by Mopito, he was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Erwin A Corinales.
During the investigation, authorities were able to recover from the crime scene a homemade .45 pistol loaded with one magazine, five (5) ammos, a knife, shabu paraphernalia and four motorcycles. The confiscated dangerous drug weighed more or less two (2) grams and amounted to more or less twenty thousand pesos (Php 20,000.00).
All the individuals who were in violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were detained at the Tagum City Police Station awaiting appropriate legal action while the pieces of evidence would be subjected to examination and proper disposition. Rigor Mortiz
