In collaboration with the Philippine Sports Commission, the City Government of Tagum through its City Sports and Development Office relaunched the largely-participated Play and Learn: Sports For Free Program – a nationwide sports-for-all advocacy of the national government.
The Play and Learn: Sports For Free Program was implemented to promote wellness and fitness of the citizens by engaging in free sports training open not only for youngsters but for parents and senior citizens as well.
Now on its third instalment since 2014, the Local Government of Tagum has successfully relaunched the program in the city at the Rotary Park, Brgy. Magugpo Poblacion, Tagum City, with about 400 attendees as targeted participants.
This program aims not just to foster physical fitness, self-discipline and teamwork among its participants, but also to promote stronger family ties and to value the role of peers and family members in inspiring young athletes reach their full potential.
This year’s edition of Play and Learn offered 13 sports events for free such as Aerobics (Zumba), Arnis, Athletics (Jogging), Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Dancesports, Dart, Frisbee, Karatedo, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, and Volleyball.
Such events will be conducted at the Rotary Park every Saturday, at 5:30am-8:00am, year-round.
In accordance to the city’s EAGLE WINGS developmental thrusts by Mayor Allan L. Rellon, the Play and Learn falls under its agenda for Wellness, Sports, and Health, to boost and sustain healthy lifestyle through engagement in sports and promote Sports Tourism in the locale. Drex Rafols/CIO Tagum
