Tagum City — On the second week of the first wave of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) assistance distribution, three (3) kind-hearted Tagumenyos returned the cash aid to Mayor Allan L. Rellon at the Tagum City COVID-19 Task Force Command Center last May 6.
Identified as residents of Brgy. Magugpo North, Martin Cabreros, Reginald Barnachea and Jessie Sanchez personally visited the command center with the intention of returning the received money together with Brgy. Chairman Vinencia Labastida.
Upon learning the guidelines crafted by the DSWD, they knew that they are ineligible to avail the program.
Cabreros and Sanchez are Brgy. Tanods of Magugpo North whose wives are beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). On the other hand, Barnachea is an employee of the Security Management Office of LGU-Tagum.
These honest individuals said in an interview that they have decided to return the cash for there are other Tagumenyos who are more deserving and needful of the SAP aid.
They are just among the countless Tagumenyos who volunteered to return their cash aid.
Mayor Rellon voiced out his delight and gratefulness to these Tagumenyos for their selflessness and honesty in these problematic times because of the coronavirus.
He further described the moment as a proud and amusing one given that amidst the challenges– health-wise or financially– being faced by people now due to the COVID-19, people with golden hearts like them still exist.
On the other hand, the city government of Tagum is fast-tracking the distribution of the SAP cash assistance to worthy Tagumenyos in various strategic location in the city as the deadline set by the national government is fast approaching.
36, 965 households in Tagum are eligible for the said cash aid from the national government.
