Tagum to begin construction of new city police station

TAGUM CITY—A Ground Breaking Ceremony was held at the old slaughterhouse in Barangay Magugpo East to commence the start of the construction of the Php 45 million pesos-worth Tagum City Police Station and Training Complex Center Project last Tuesday, January 17, 2018.

The police station building is funded by the Philippine National Police National Office amounting to Php 15 million pesos while the training center which will serve as a firing range is subsidized by the local government unit aggregating to 30 million pesos through a loan from the Development Bank of the Philippines Tagum.

The said project is under the EAGLE WINGS program of Mayor Allan L. Rellon particularly on the genuine peace, safety, and security agenda.

The local government donated a 2,154 sq.m. land for the PNP building itself and a usufruct agreement is signed for the training building which used to be the slaughterhouse of Tagum. It will soon be renovated to be a top class firing range with a mini gym to train new and old policemen in handling guns and monitoring their physical fitness.

“Dili lang pud nato siya makuan sa Tagum City, ma-cater pud nato ang tanang naa diri sa Tagum City like ang Davao Provincial Police Office na nag support jud sa atua…ug ang uban pud nato nga mga stakeholders, like our LGU, ang atong mga force multipliers, katong mga finest, kana sila ang makabenefit sa atong proyekto sa local government.” (This project is not only intended to help our Tagum policemen but we could also cater to our Provincial Police Office which is in full support of our endeavors… Our beneficiaries also include the other stakeholders, the local government unit, our force multipliers, and Tagum’s Finest.) , PSUPT Laudemer Laude, the Chief of Police of Tagum said in an interview.

“Walay rason nga dili sila makatrabaho og maayo.” (There’s no excuse not to work hard anymore.), PSUPT Francis Brillante, the Deputy Provincial Director for Administration added with a smile. He is thankful with this partnership with the LGU of Tagum and PNP because police officers can now work in a conducive environment. The station is considered to be an added asset to the progressive city of Tagum.

Mayor Rellon credits the hard working staffs of the city particularly the PNP Tagum, the City Planning and Development Office, and the City Engineer’s Office for successfully spearheading the project. It is expected that aside from boosting the skills of our police officers, people would also regard the station and the training complex a place to go when in Tagum.

The existing Tagum City Police Station, located at the back of the old City Hall, will be demolished soon to give way to the construction of the Tagum City Cultural and Historical Center. Their office will be temporarily located at the New City Hall Complex along with its cell facilities while waiting for the new building to be finished before the end of the year. Ziyarah Manalo/CIO Tagum
