TAGUM CITY—The City Government of Tagum’s thrust towards having a healthy community earned its first year CROWN Maintenance Award for Quality Nutrition Programs awarded during the 2018 National Awarding Ceremony last July 31 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).
CROWN which stands for Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition is a prestigious award that seeks for entities that give importance for the well-being and nutrition of the people.
The recognition is conferred after an inter-agency National Evaluation Team (NET) affirmed that the efficiency and effectiveness of managing the local nutrition and related programs improved the nutrition well-being of the City of Tagum.
After a rigorous effort in achieving the objectives of the local government, a radical decrease was noted in the prevalence rate of underweight, stunting, and wasting among pre-schoolers of Tagum from 2015 to 2017.
A drastic reduction from 2.5% to 2.2% for underweight, 5.5% from 11.1% for stunting, and 2.6% to 1.6% for wasting was observed among Tagumenyo children.
A CROWN trophy and P100,000 cash prize were awarded by the National Nutrition Council to City of Tagum and was received by City Councilor & City Nutrition Action Officer Jan Dimitri Sator in behalf of Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon together with City Health Officer and City Nutrition Coordinator Dr. Arnel Florendo, CLOO and DILG Jacqueline Esdrelon.
It can be recalled that LGU Tagum was awarded for three consecutive years of being consistent in implementing efficient and effective nutrition programs which drastically decreased the malnutrition index of Tagum from 24% to only 6% in 2017. JP Cordovero/CIO Tagum
