TAGUM CITY – The most sought after songwriting workshop in the nation – the Philpop Bootcamp — came to the Music Capital of the South last July 22-25 held at Hijo Resorts Davao, solidifying the mark of Tagum City in the music industry in the Philippines.
Reputable musicians and mentors of the music industry converged in Tagum to engage with 23 aspiring Mindanaoan songwriters who were chosen to participate in the 4-day intensive songwriting bootcamp, enrich their musical skills and knowledge, and encourage them to pursue their passion for music. These songwriters, called “Fellows” by the mentors will automatically be part of the top 300 for next year’s Philpop competition.
Being part of the “seniors” in the music industry, Mr. Cayabyab said that it was their time to look for new breeds of young musicians to teach them how they did it in the past, learn from their generation’s mistakes and experiences, as well as share all the tools they know to make the younger ones better than their generation.
On the other hand, singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon stressed the importance of putting the heart and soul into a song and encouraged the aspirants to write in their local language where they can express their emotions and culture better.
Meanwhile, Mr. Cayabyab on behalf of the whole team, added that the bootcamp in Tagum was the best one and thanked the city and Hijo for providing organic and delicious food and a conducive space for creating songs.
As the host of the Mindanao leg, Tagum is the 2nd destination of this year’s workshop which started last May 27-30 in Batangas. The Bacolod/Iloilo leg would happen on September 23-26, while the last leg will be held in Dagupan/Lingayen on November 18-21. Ziyarah Manalo/CIO Tagum
