Tagum in high spirits after successful MinBizCon hosting

TAGUM CITY—The City Government of Tagum is positive that Tagum has once again cemented its image as the next business hub in Mindanao after the Tagum City and Davao City Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. successfully hosted the 27th Mindanao Business Conference.

The event was held in Big 8 Corporate Hotel which started last September 13-15, 2018 where bigwigs in the business sector and government officials pronounced their vision for the Land of Promise which was anchored to the theme of the conference: “Building a Shared Future for Mindanao.”

This edition was participated in by hundreds of participants both from private and public sector coming from all over the Philippines. The three-day conference covered various topics such as the shift to federal form of government, investment prospects in the Bangsamoro, the national government’s Build Build Build for Mindanao, and Tagum City as the 3rd most competitive component and thriving city, among others.

As part of Mindanao, Mayor Allan Rellon gave the participants 10 reasons why investing in Tagum would be a wise decision. He emphasized how Tagum has 9 gateways which would allow for continuous flow of services and products in the city. Admittedly, Tagum is still young but it is the next city to watch out for succeeding Davao City, the mayor added.

It can be recalled that Tagum signed a twinning agreement with Haikou City of China which is expected to bring investments which would equate to more jobs and opportunities for Tagumenyos. It also won last year’s search for the most business friendly local government unit in the Philippines conferred by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Virgilio Agunod, CPA, the President of TCCCII agreed that winning as the Most Business Friendly LGU in 2017 earned Tagum a chance to be recognized in the business world. In an interview, he also left a message to local business owners in Tagum and to its residents for the coming changes in the business landscape of the city.

“Be prepared to meet not to call them competitors, but partners because a lot of businesses will grow and will be established in Tagum and that is one way of telling the people this is a good investment area and we should not be afraid.” He also added that businesses whether small or big should exert effort in producing high quality products so the visitors would come back and invest in Tagum.

Sec. Datu Abul Khayr D. Alonto of the Mindanao Development Authority represented President Rodrigo Duterte in the said event. He assured the participants that investing in Mindanao would never go to waste for the island has so much untapped potential yet to be developed.

Some notable guests and speakers of the event were Ms. Ma. Alegria S. Limjoco, the President of PCCI, Atty. Ishak V. Mastura, Chairman of Regional Board of Investments, Consul General Li Lin from the Consular Office of China in Davao, Min. Makoto Iyori of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, Ms. Jesusa Natividad Rojas, the Chief Financial Officer of Lafarge Holcim Philippines, Inc., and Gov. Napoleon Concepcion of the Board of Investments – Department of Trade and Industry.
