Tagum intensifies drive vs mandatory mask-wearing violators

Tagum City — About 300 individuals were caught red-handedly violating the City Ordinance No. 939 otherwise known as the COVID-19 Minimum Health Standards (MHS) Ordinance in the past week of intensive implementation by the city task force.

Composed personnel and officers from the Traffic Management Office, Tagum’s FINEST, PNP-Tagum and PNP-SAF led by Mayor Allan L. Rellon together with Vice Mayor Eva Lorraine Estabillo, this operation plan patrols every corner of Tagum to encourage every Tagumenyo to strictly follow the protocols set to fight COVID-19 such as the mandatory wearing of face mask, and maintaining physical distancing of at least six feet apart in all public places, among others.

As the cases continue to spike day after day, Mayor Rellon assembled and enabled five (5) teams to conduct the operation. This is to let everyone know that the City Government of Tagum is serious in its fight to win over the threats of this pandemic.

As of the November 12, Tagum City has recorded 283 confirmed cases of which 67 are active cases, 208 have already recovered, and 8 succumbed to death.

Apprehended individuals are told to settle their fines within seven (7) days since the issuance of their citation ticket. First and second time offenders are fined 500 and 1,500 pesos, respectively. On the other hand, third time offenders will be fined 5,000 pesos and/or one (1) week imprisonment at the discretion of the court.

It can be recalled that the City Ordinance No. 939 was enacted and passed last July 20 following the resumption of all the economic and social activities after two months of hard lockdown.

Ultimately, this implementation seeks to encourage everyone to instil and promote health consciousness to protect themselves from the hazards brought by COVID-19. JP Cordovero/CIO Tagum
