Tagum police scores big time in drug buy-bust ops anew

Tagum City— The top 4 personality on the drug watch list of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region XI (PDEA-XI) and Tagum City Police Station (PNP-Tagum) was nabbed last November 16 in an anti-illegal drug buy bust operation conducted at Brgy. San Miguel.

At around 10 in the evening of November 16, the joint forces of PNP-Tagum Anti-Illegal Drug Unit and PDEA-XI Davao del Norte Unit resulted to the neutralization of Elmel Payo who is considered a high value target in Davao Region.

During the operation, Payo allegedly pulled the trigger first upon knowing that the person he was in transaction with is a police undercover which resulted to a shootout.

Payo was rushed to Davao Regional Medical Center with the intention to save his life but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The operatives were able to buy five grams (5 grms) of crystalline-like substance believed to be shabu from the suspect and another “jumbo” sachet of the same substance was also seized from the target which summed up to Php 500,000 street value.

A caliber .45 pistol was also recovered from Payo which is now subjected to a ballistic test to find if the gun is connected to the previous cases of shootout in the city.

Being a high value target, Elmel Payo was said to be involved in a large scale drug trade in Davao del Norte, Davao de Oro and in other parts of Davao Region.

He also had a warrant of arrest for being the suspect of killing a policeman in the past.

PLTCOL Jed Clamor, the Tagum Chief of Police, said in an interview that despite this pandemic the police force will be stronger than ever in fighting drugs and other forms of criminality in the city.

He ended the interview with a warning to people who are engaged in drugs, “You stop it. If not, we will stop you from existing.” JP Cordovero/CIO Tagum
