Tagum’s youth fest puts premium on youth development

The City Government of Tagum had officially launched this year’s Youth Festival and Tagumenyo youngsters are now ready to take part in the various activities set for them throughout the week-long celebration.

No less than Mayor Allan L. Rellon led in the launching of the Tagum City Youth Festival 2018 last August 6, at the New City Hall Atrium, alongside the event’s organizers from the Local Youth Development Office.

The local chief executive stressed this is part of the continuing saga of the local government’s advocacy on youth development.

This year marks the first implementation of the said Festival in observance of the City Ordinance No. 811, s-2017 which was signed into law last year, pertaining to the conduct of the Tagum City Youth Festival, scheduled on every second week of August annually.

The Tagum City Youth Festival 2018 kicked-off with an extremely fun and energy-filled activity – the Color Run – which was well-participated by over 2,500 Tagumenyo youngsters last August 5, 2018. An Inter-Barangay Basketball League also commenced on the same day and will continue its play-offs until August 12.

Centered on the theme, “Bagong Kabataan… Makilahok… Makialam sa pagkamit ng TAGUMpay”, various events and activities are organized to recognize the vital role of the Tagumenyo youth, promote their well-being, and showcase their exceptional skills and talents.

Among the events that were conducted during the early days of the Festival are the Sambawit: Ecumenical Prayer and Marathon of Praise, as well as the Tribulympics which featured series of Tribal Games that promoted cultural significance and offered extreme fun for Tagumenyo youngsters.

Other activities include Bangon Kalikasan, Soil Bagging, KKK Battle of the Bands, Artbokasiya, Pasundayag Cultural Show, Feeding Caravan, Musikalye, Foam Party, among others. These events will run from August 6 until 11 in different venues around the city.

This year also saw the revival of Junior City Officials and Department Heads where selected youth who passed a rigorous screening process act as heads of offices for a week. This is to expose the youth on local governance.

The Festival will conclude with an Awarding Ceremony dubbed as Agila Youth Fellowship Night on August 12 at the New City Hall Atrium. Drex Rafols/CIO Tagum
