Twin victory for Tagum: Mayor Rellon, cultural affairs office recognized in Malacañan

TAGUM CITY– The efforts of the people who are the driving force in ensuring that the City Government of Tagum gives the best in public service were paid off when no less than our country’s Head of State conferred the highest honors a government servant could receive.

In a fitting ceremony, Mayor Allan Rellon was presented with the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award by President Rodrigo Duterte on September 27, 2018 at the Malacañan Palace in Manila.

The City’s local chief executive (LCE) was selected by the National Screening Committee formed by the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and composed of people from various sectors after his contribution and performance relative to doing best in public service was evaluated by the committee who deemed that his outstanding track record in public service had a nationwide impact on public interest, security and patrimony.

As cited by the CSC, the city’s LCE had been instrumental in achieving an unprecedented growth in local revenues, rise in enrolment rate and improvement in the socio-economic condition of the Tagumenyo constituents through various programs, projects and activities, including the cascading of employment facilitation services to the grassroots level.

On the other hand, the City Tribal and Muslim Affairs Office which is now formally and officially named as the City Cultural Communities Affairs Division, received the Civil Service Commission Pagasa Award in Group Category from President Duterte for their outstanding contribution which directly benefitted several people in both the government and the community.

The office which sees to the affairs of the city’s ten (10) cultural communities had been instrumental in the preservation of culture of the original settlers of Tagum, as well as in ensuring that the members of the Muslim and the Indigenous Peoples (IP) communities have an equal footing as the non-Muslim and non-indigenous tribe members in the Tagumenyo society.

The double win of the local government unit in the national level of the CSC’s Honor Awards Program is an attestation of the good governance of the Rellon Administration as espoused in his social contract with the people of Tagum. (Richi Gulle/ CIO- Tagum)
