Bayanihan Clean-up Drive plows on for a Clean & Green Tagum

November 24, 2023

Filipinos are generally neighborly and hospitable in nature. The practice of Bayanihan, an old tradition of Filipinos, is a testament to how we are always eager to extend a helping hand and work shoulder to shoulder to achieve a certain goal together. In the modern world where the spirit of bayanihan is fading away, Tagum City sought to keep the old tradition alive through Bayanihan Clean-up Drives spearheaded by local chief executive, Hon. Mayor Rey T. Uy.

Despite the scorching heat of the sun, volunteers of the Bayanihan Clean-up Drive offer their weekends, in pursuit of the goal of maintaining the cleanliness in Tagum city. Offices of the Local Government Unit of Tagum dedicated themselves to keeping the bayanihan and volunteerism spirit alive, together with employees of national line agencies, members of organizations from various sectors such as Boy Scouts also participated in joining the worthy cause of bringing cleanliness and orderliness to Tagum City.

National highways in Brgy. Canocotan and Brgy. Magdum were cleared of vegetation near the sidewalks. Areas such as the City Motorpool and the City Hall of Tagum Annex were rid of the various debris and junk that have piled up in the areas through the years. The full glory of the Energy Park was likewise restored through clearing and grubbing activities.

On top of those, volunteers also exerted full effort in cleaning our drainages and canals, as one way of helping mitigate flooding in our city.

As of November 8, 2022, a total of fifteen (15) Bayanihan Clean-up Drive activities were conducted since the very first clean-up drive of Mayor Uy’s administration last July 9, 2022. Through the unified efforts of our volunteers and city government employees, Tagum City was able to restore cleanliness in areas such as Energy Park, National Highway, Motorpool, City Hall of Tagum, and various barangays in the city.

Accomplishing goals together as one brings our community closer than ever. Fostering the spirit of bayanihan towards a better home for our citizens, especially our children is a demonstration of how Tagum City is a city of harmony. When we ensure a clean home for our people, we also ensure a functional city for our citizens and for our public servants. Zenia M. Sanchez/CIO Tagum
