The Binuhat Festival is a vibrant celebration in Tagum City for the LGBTQ+ community, referred to as ‘Binuhat’ or ‘Creations’ by the Tagumenyos. In every year of June, they unite to celebrate pride month, showcasing the importance of pride and its place in the LGBTQ community. Participants take to the streets, dressed in dazzling colors and proudly waving flags, symbolizing acceptance, unity, and inclusivity.
Every year, having this event which coincides with Pride Month, is of paramount importance to the LGBTQ+ community. Not only does it commemorate the historical significance of events, but it also serves as a platform for increasing visibility and raising awareness about gay rights, homophobia, and discrimination. Through this event, it celebrates their identity and culture, offering a supportive environment for individuals to express their true selves and take pride in their identity.
As the society’s views and understanding of the LGBTQ+ community has advanced, this festival has also become more inclusive and visible. It has grown in scale and reach, appealing not only to these individuals but also to their allies, friends, and families.
The eight local makeup artist and hairdressers competed for the opportunity to showcase their skills in makeup application, hair styling, and nail art extensions. The event took place at Robinsons Place Tagum as part of part of celebrating the Binuhat Festival on June 23, 2023. This highlights the beauty in each individual, regardless of gender identity and sexual orientation. It showcased their amazing talent by promoting the LGBTQ+ community.
The presence of Binuhat Queen’s at the event in Tagum City brought an entertaining touch during the festival. Participants adorned themselves in elaborate, eye-catching attire, proudly embracing their authentic selves. The colorful and expressive attire is more than just a clothing, it is a vibrant expression of individuality, acceptance, and celebration.
